Hot Teff Cereal with Figs

Ingredients

1 cup whole grain Teff

3 cups water

1 tbsp butter

1/4 tsp ground cloves

1/4 tsp ginger

3/4 cup dried or fresh figs

1/4 tsp salt

3 tbsp honey

1/2 cup chopped walnuts or other nuts (optional)

Directions

Wash hands well with soap and warm water

Whisk together teff, water, butter, spices, and figs in a large saucepan over high heat.

Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer

Whisk often while cooking to prevent lumps from forming, about 15 minutes.

Stir in salt, honey, and walnuts *honey should not be fed to infants less than one year of age

Serve immediately
