Ingredients

 2 cups onion, chopped
 2 tablespoons fresh garlic cloves, chopped
 1 pound split peas, about
 2 ¼ cups
 8 cups low sodium broth
 ½ teaspoons ground black pepper
 1 bay leaf
 choped carrots and celery (optional)

Directions

Wash hands well with soap and warm water.

Combine all ingredients in a 4-5 quart slow cooker.

Cover, vent, and cook on low for 8 hours.

Serve warm and enjoy!

For a smoother soup, carefully purée cooked soup in a blender half at a time.
