Slow Split Pea Soup

 2 cups onion, chopped
 2 tablespoons fresh garlic cloves, chopped
 1 pound split peas, about
 2 ¼ cups
 8 cups low sodium broth
 ½ teaspoons ground black pepper
 1 bay leaf

1.Wash hands well with soap and warm water.
