.Wash hands with soap and warm water.

.Preheat oven to 350°F.

.Lightly spray pizza pan or cookie sheet with non-stick vegetable oil.

.Divide dough into eight pieces and shape each one into 2½-3 inch circles. Set them on baking sheet and set aside.

.In a large skillet, over medium heat, heat up a little bit of oil. Add the onions and sauté them until clear. Add the peppers and mushrooms and cook them for about 2 minutes.

.If using meat, add it to the vegetables and sauté it until fully cooked and browned. Set aside.

.Over each dough circle, spread 1-2 tablespoons of sauce, being careful not to cover the edge. Pour about ½ cup of the filling over one half and top with 1-2 tablespoons of cheese. Fold the empty half over the filling to create a half-moon. Press the edges together with a fork or your fingertips. If necessary, wet the inside edges to make them stick.

.Make a few holes or slits on top of the calzones to allow steam to escape. Bake in preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden.

.Allow them to cool slightly and enjoy!
